Summer Sales: Vauxhall %20 OFF

I usually ignore the advertisements on internet, like most of you. However, those advertisements sometimes (!) hinder something, which can be very charming. This happened with me a few minutes ago. I accidently clicked web advertisement of Vauxhall. Because, it was really interesting! A car advertisement with these two words “%20 OFF” is extremely hard to ignore.

This is technically something really impossible in automotive industry, in other words; %20 off for a new car means %90 off for a new season clothes at Selfridges, Harrods or Net-A-Porter. Just ask a woman, is it possible to see %90 off in these stores, and she’ll reply “impossible”.

But this time, it is possible. Vauxhall is on sale, %20 for new cars! I don’t know the details but even this part sounds great. If you are considering buying a family car or replacing your old one and you don’t have any passion on any particular brand, just run to closet Vauxhall dealer. I know Vauxhall is a bit dull drive and does not offer new things to market and, etc, etc! These are real facts, Mondeo looks and drive better, Passat is better made; but none of them offer %20 off for a new car. Forget the adverse side of the world and focus on the positive side ;)

Why 24 different Porsche 911s?

For many years, I was trying to find an answer one of the most basic question of automotive industry. Why Porsche 911 has so many variations! At this moment there are 24 different Porsche 911s, this is the most stretched product line in automotive industry. You can buy any type of 911, which can satisfy your needs, pleasures, expectations, fantasies or anything else! Instead of altering your taste, Porsche alters the 911!

Last week, I had chance to meet with the PR Director of Porsche UK. I have been waiting to talk with someone, who works in Porsche and knows the top-secret answer to this question. Why Porsche has 24 different 911s? And she directly replied; there is always one Porsche, which can match with a different customer needs and each of these 24 models focuses on 24 different consumers characters. As I mentioned, Porsche wills to satisfy any customer, who loves Porsche and increase its profits. This is a very brief explanation but Porsche makes lots of money thanks to stretched product range :)

After all these, I still don’t see the point of offering a S model in 911 range. It fills the gap between raw 911 and Turbo but it also make raw 911 as the cheapest one. Whenever I saw a 911 without S I always think, he didn’t save enough money to buy S or he doesn’t care about the S. Most probably, the second option is more plausible.

Basically, there is no pure 911! There are many 911 and you decide which is the pure 911 for you, not for others.

2011 Honda Sport Cars Hybrid CR-Z Mugen Concept

2011 Honda Sport Cars Hybrid CR-Z Mugen Concept
Twelve modified 2011 Honda CR-Z sport hybrid coupes are featured prominently in the Honda booth at the 2010 SEMA Show, LAS VEGAS, which opens today. The 2011 Honda Sport Cars Hybrid CR-Z Mugen Concept is the sporty evolution of the Honda CR-Z, prepared by the Japanese Mugen Motorsports, officially associated with Honda. Honda has teamed up with Mugen again for a new hotrod special - but this one's a hybrid. The new 2011 Honda Sport Cars Hybrid CR-Z Mugen Concept is a slightly more ecologically sound proposition than the banzai 2009 Civic Type R Mugen, and brings the race car treatment to Honda's hybrid coupe.
2011 Honda Sport Cars Hybrid CR-Z Mugen Concept
As the first available sport hybrid, the 2011 Honda Sport Cars Hybrid CR-Z Mugen Concept demonstrates new opportunities for vehicle personalization among the import tuner community. Several significant vehicles are being unveiled at the show, including a 2011 CR-Z equipped with MUGEN* accessories, the Honda Performance Development, Inc. (HPD) CR-Z Hybrid R Concept, the HPD CR-Z Racer and several vehicles equipped with Honda Genuine Accessories.
2011 Honda Sport Cars Hybrid CR-Z Mugen Concept
Also unveiled today were two concept vehicles from HPD: the CR-Z Hybrid R Concept and the HPD CR-Z Racer. Though neither vehicle is intended for sale, HPD, Honda’s North American racing company, was determined to demonstrate the potential of the CR-Z for both street and racing performance. Both vehicles share many performance enhancements, with the CR-Z Hybrid R Concept highlighting Honda-designed street styling and the HPD CR-Z Racer opting for serious racing capability. To demonstrate that capability, HPD will campaign two HPD CR-Z Racers at the 25 Hours of Thunderhill endurance race in December. HPD enhancements to both cars include: a turbocharger and upgraded IMA™ hybrid system, resulting in an estimated combined 200 horsepower and 175 lb-ft. of torque; performance clutch; limited-slip differential; ‘circuit-tuned’ suspension; upgraded brakes and aerodynamic components.
2011 Honda Sport Cars Hybrid CR-Z Mugen Concept
Two vehicles were on display to demonstrate currently available Honda Genuine Accessories. For the 2011 Honda Sport Cars Hybrid CR-Z Mugen Concept, Honda displayed a vehicle equipped with 17-inch alloy wheels; side, front lip and tailgate spoilers; a rear diffuser; an illuminated door-sill trim and an interior armrest. Additionally, a 2010 Accord Coupe equipped with dealer-installed Honda Factory Performance™ (HFP™) components melded a distinctive, custom appearance with an enhanced level of handling performance. All Honda Genuine Accessories offer the same 3-year/36,000 mile bumper-to-bumper warranty as the rest of the vehicle, when installed at the time of new vehicle purchase, and are engineered to be fully compatible with each Honda vehicle.
2011 Honda Sport Cars Hybrid CR-Z Mugen Concept
Mugen Euro has developed a highly-tuned version of the Honda CR-Z that aims to deliver up to 200PS and 215Nm of torque by boosting the hybrid's petrol-electric powertrain. The goal of the project was to prove hybrid cars can be exciting to drive, by producing "Civic Type R-like" performance from the hybrid coupe while remaining sympathetic to the original Honda direction for the CR-Z. Torque Mugen Honda crz provide 50 percent greater power and use electric as the fuel. Obviously this is a good concept for a Honda hybrid sport cars. 2011 Honda Sport Cars Hybrid CR-Z Mugen Concept uses a 5-speed adjustable front and mounted on the back, which would increase the width base and weight of the settlement.
2011 Honda Sport Cars Hybrid CR-Z Mugen Concept
Colin Whittamore from Mugen Euro explains the philosophy behind the creation of the CR-Z Mugen: “We wanted a car that has genuine performance available at the touch of a button, but can perform just like a standard CR-Z and offer good fuel economy when the driver wishes. For that reason, we’ve kept the three driving modes, so the driver can select “eco” or “normal” to switch to economy and low emissions for daily driving, but press the Mugen button for the full-blown weekend-warrior settings”.
2011 Honda Sport Cars Hybrid CR-Z Mugen Concept
In addition, Mugen’s engineers also widened the 2011 Honda Sport Cars Hybrid CR-Z Mugen Concept’s front and rear tracks and fitted stiffer 5-step adjustable dampers and a limited slip differential to maximize traction. The Honda CR-Z Mugen stops courtesy of larger brake discs and 4-pot calipers. 2011 Honda Sport Cars Hybrid CR-Z Mugen Concept comes with sporty interior, there are Recaro sports seats, a different gear knob and a carbon rear view mirror cover, but your attention will be instantly drawn by the addition of three gauges that display water and oil temperature and pressure.
2011 Honda Sport Cars Hybrid CR-Z Mugen Concept
Among factors that features the sportiveness stands out the lowered bumper, a large roof spoiler and the carbon-fiber bonnet which, according to Honda, is an important technical detail. The weight of the 2011 Honda Sport Cars Hybrid CR-Z Mugen Concept then was reduced by more than 50 kg, through the use of lightweight materials as, again, the carbon-fiber, and first tests seem very positive.
2011 Honda Sport Cars Hybrid CR-Z Mugen Concept
The 2011 Honda Sport Cars Hybrid CR-Z Mugen Concept is purely a concept car at this stage, designed to demonstrate the potential and versatility of the Honda IMA system, with no confirmed plans for further production. Mugen and Honda (UK) will consider media and customer feedback before deciding on any next steps.

Crazy Idea: Concrete Car Interior

I know the title sounds a bit unusual for automotive industry. Concrete and automotive are totally different words; contemporary meaning of automotive is lightness and concrete is heaviness. This is that basic! But, concrete sometimes looks nice, if you could manage to use it and design it properly. In modern houses, we started to see pure concrete walls instead of wallpapers or colours! I can see that concrete is in a new era.

Like houses, cars are started to offer different interior options. It used to be between plastic and wood. Now you can use have any type of wood, brushed metal, carbon fibre or still the plastic! My suggestion is using the concrete in central console. For sure, I don't mean to use it everywhere! Using it only in the centre console with the combination of leather or wood can create unique atmosphere.

Concrete is not a very good material for car interior, which has high tendency to vibrate all the time. Therefore, I am suggesting to use concrete only for small areas. It can be used, where the wood is standing in Evoque's centre console. The advantage of concrete is the ability to provide unique interior to each vehicle. Unlike wood or metal, concrete cannot be same in each car and it will be a unique material to use for car interior.

The main problem, the weight! I am not saying make the entire central console from concrete. It can be only a few centimetres thick, for the area which is occupied by wood, and will not charge extra weight to vehicle.

I won't be surprised if I see this soon!

Volkswagen Eos vs Volkswagen Golf Cabrio

You didn't read wrong, VW revealed a new Golf Cabrio. After this car, VW's cabrio strategy became more complicated than Paris Hilton's love life! Currently in VW range, there is a car called Eos and this is a cabrio, actually it is a coupe cabrio with a metal roof. However, it is open top car! And VW decided to stop Golf Cabrio, when they revealed the VW Eos and it was a very good decision. Because, Eos and Golf Cabrio would definitely collapsed with each other.

Interestingly, VW changed mind and revealed the new Golf Cabrio. It is not a coupe cabrio with a metal roof, it has a soft top but still open top car. I really wonder how consumers will react to this; they both offer four seat and they look very similar to each other. And I find really hard to find a different among these two cars! My opinion is still Eos is a better option, thanks to its metal roof. Unless you buy a Rolls Royce or Bentley, I don't like soft top cars.

Probably, either Eos or Golf Cabrio will be erased from production, and it will be decided by the consumers!

I didn't wish to discuss the technical features, because they are identical with each other! VW, unexpectedly revealed a car that is going to be a competitor of their own car.

Speed Date: New Mercedes SLK

Mercedes revealed the new SLK recently. Like previous two versions, it is one of the best-looking car in Mercedes range. As I mentioned in my previous posts, new SLK looks like a small SL, and offers very sophisticated technologies, which can easily out date the SL!

Today topic is not the technology, it is the interactive movie of the SLK, Speed Date. Before starting, the interactive movie has a very nicely designed composition and integrates the technologies of the new SLK in a very nice harmony. Also, they didn’t spoil the story!

However, they made a small mistake during the shootings! The two SLKs, which were used for this interactive movie are not the same. Many people know that, there are couple of vehicles are ready for this type of movie shootings and they supposed to be identical. They have different equipment; this might sound crazy but the vehicles are not identical. Actually, they supposed to be identical to sustain the flow of the movie.

The non-matching equipment is the auto dimming rear view mirror. During the driving sequences, the rear view mirror is not auto dimming one, it can be realised by the small switch or button under the mirror. If you have the auto function, you need to worry about the long beam, which is annoying your eyes at night. Mirror automatically dims itself and reduces the problem. Unfortunately, this equipment is optional in Mercedes and they charge you extra money. I am not complaining, this is the Mercedes style “alles in ordnung und alles ist optional”. Probably the Mercedes team did not realise this minor point and I did not see anything on internet about this.

If I am going to buy a SLK, I would definitely buy most of the options. Unless, it does not look like a proper Mercedes. And they worth to buy! My opinion, go for the SLK 350; 3.5-lt petrol engine which produces 306 HP. Perfect match for SLK.
